Summer 2016 Plans for Killington

Summer 2016 will bring events, attractions and mountain bike trails

Winter is not over yet, but Mike Solimano, Tracy Taylor and Amy Morrison are already talking about summer 2016. Yesterday, in the midst of the biggest snow storm Killington has seen this season, Killington Resort, the Killington Pico Area Association and the Town of Killington unveiled their plans for summer 2016 at the Annual Killington Summer Kick-Off at the Killington Grand Resort.  This is a breakdown of Killington’s summer 2016 plan as it relates to mountain biking.

“Killington is committed to becoming the mountain biking capital of the east.” said Tracy Taylor, Killington Resort Director of Resort Services

Killington recognizes the importance of mountain biking as a summer sport and vacation destination activity.  So they have committed to trails, events, and camps that involve mountain biking as well as other attractions for the entire family to enjoy even if they are not mountain bikers.

New Trails for Summer 2016

This summer the town Killington in conjunction with the Killington Mountain Bike Club will be breaking ground on family friendly cross country mountain bike trails near Kent Pond and Gifford Woods State Park.  This map shows all proposed trails for the entire project.  Actual trails to be built for this summer will be those east of Route 100 and just north of Kent Pond.

Killington town proposed family friendly cross country bike trails. Killington plans to break ground on some of these trails in summer 2016.

In addition to the already extensive mountain biking trails at Killington Resort, the Resort plans to add more mountain bike trails on Snowshed, as well as add 8 – 9 miles of new trails on Ramshead that will be open by July 28. The Ramshead trails include:

Events for Summer 2016

In the 20 weeks between Memorial Day and Columbus Day there are 18 different events on the Killington Resort events and the town events calendars for the Killington area.  Our favorite events from the calendars are:

Camps for Summer 2016

Once again Killington will be offering Summer Camp for Kids.  Summer Camp runs from June 20 – August 26.  New this year – The ‘Rec and Trek Camp’ for kids age 8 – 13 includes mountain biking at Killington Resort every Wednesday.  These campers will have access to Killington’s brand new fleet of youth mountain bikes.

New Attractions for Summer 2016

Killington Resort recognizes that not everyone in the family is a mountain biker. So they will be adding a host of new attractions to the Snowshed Adventure Center.  Attractions that will be added at Killington Resort include a dual 950′ racing zip line, a 40 foot jump tower (that may include a climbing wall), summer (land) tubing, a jogging and fitness trail around Snowshed Pond, and a Shooter/Soaker basketball game for kids.  In addition to these great new attractions, one of the Roaring Brook Umbrella Bars will be relocated for the summer to the Snowshed Pond area for waterside libations.

Killington Resort is open for summer 2016 activities from Memorial Day to Columbus Day.

This summer Killington Resort will be extending their hours for the mountain bikers.  The season itself will be extended from Memorial Day to Columbus Day.  The mountain bike trails will be open 1 hour later on week days and 2 hours later on weekends than they have been in previous seasons.  The Summer 2016 operating schedule will be as follows:

  • Memorial Day to June 18: Open weekends only
  • June 18 to Labor Day: Open 7 days/week
  • Labor Day to Columbus Day: Open weekends only
